Stonewater is a celebration of nature—the flowing streams, the landscape and vistas throughout the community, the surrounding forest preserves. But perhaps nowhere is this more evident in the trees carefully placed, preserved, and planned throughout the community.
Stonewater has its own on-site nursery, so trees can be mature, intentional, healthy, and established from the start. The nursery includes 100 different types of trees native to the area that are sure to thrive. Throughout Stonewater, in addition to existing trees, you’ll find 12,000 mature trees that are being grown in our very own nursery.
As a huge perk to homeowners, mature trees will be planted in each neighborhood as part of the landscaping. This means you get to enjoy healthy, established trees in your neighborhood right from the start.
Homeowners will love taking a stroll on the multi-use paths that wind through the natural landscape. Trees provide gorgeous focal points, and some of the trees even have a story to tell—29 Heritage Trees are planted around the community, many marked with a plaque that tells the tree’s place in American history.
The Heritage Trees at Stonewater have connections to Civil War battles, presidents, explorers, native Americans, great American authors, rockstars, and other cultural groundbreakers and leaders throughout our country’s history. There are trees specifically connected to Lincoln, Roosevelt, and George Washington. One was grown from a seed hand-picked at Elvis Presley’s Graceland estate. One is a descendant of the famous Johnny Appleseed apple tree. One is even connected to a tree that’s seeds were flown around the moon on Apollo XIV.
